Ynys Mon (Anglesey) County Flag
Anglesey or Ynys Mon in Welsh is an island off the north west coast of Wales. It is joined to the Welsh mainland by the Menai Suspension Bridge opened in 1826 and designed by Thomas Telford.
The island has a high number of Welsh language speakers and is regularly chosen as the venue for the National Eisteddfod.
Today, tourism is the main employment, although RAF Valley and the Holyhead ferry terminal are also major employers. One of the main tourist attractions is the village with the longest name in the UK – Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch together with other attractions such as Beaumaris Castle and Plas Newydd (ancestral home of Marquesses of Anglesey). There are many picturesque bays and beaches at Benllech, Rhosneigr and Red Wharf as well as the pretty harbour at Amlwch.
The flag of Anglesey is a red background with 3 gold lions and a gold chevron. It has ancient origins but was only registered with the Flag Institute in 2014.
